Denarau Island, on the main Island of Viti Levu, is the largest integrated resort in the South Pacific. If you want to splash out and be pampered, this is where you want to be. Less than 10 kilometres from Nadi, it boasts eight large resorts, stunning beaches and an 18-hole championship golf course.

The Mamanucas are a chain of 20 islands near Nadi and Denarau. One of the most established resort areas in Fiji, the Mamanucas provide a stunning array of activities for all types of travellers. In surroundings beautiful enough to star in 'Cast Away' and 'Survivor: Fiji’. These islands offer parasailing, windsurfing, dolphin-watching, famous dives such as the Big W and Gotham City, some of the best surf breaks in the world, and just about any other activity you can do on or under water.

The Yasawa Group of islands are more grand in stature than the nearby Mamanucas but are less commercialised, making them popular with backpackers. You won’t find any shops, banks or medical services here, but with so much natural beauty you’ll enjoy the break from civilisation.

The Lomaiviti Group is the perfect place to experience laid-back island life and also visit the Unesco World Heritage Site at Levuka. The islands are at the heart of Fiji's colonial past and are home to the country’s first capital, Levuka. Some of the inner islands are well-developed tourist destinations with plenty of facilities and attractions including diving, fishing, snorkeling and whale watching. 

Vanua Levu is Fiji’s second largest island. Less tourist-oriented than Viti Levu, there's still lots to see and do for the more adventurous traveller. Savusavu town is set in beautiful surroundings, with a protected bay that is a popular mooring for yachts. Wasali Nature Reserve is an untouched rainforest with hiking trails leading to spectacular views.

Taveuni is known as the Garden Island and is an eco-tourist's dream with nature reserves harbouring an abundance of native plants and wildlife. Also known for dive sites such as Eel Reef and the Great White Wall, an amazing drop-off covered in white soft coral, a Marine Park was established at Waitabu in 1990 which teems with fish and coral. Hikers and nature fans are equally well served with the Bouma National Heritage Park offering hiking trails and world-class birdwatching.

The Lau Group, made up of a few small islands in Fiji’s Far East, offer a glimpse of Fiji often not seen by tourists. Mostly undeveloped, life here is simple and somewhat wild – there are no restaurants or hotels, and only two islands have guesthouses. If you’re prepared to venture off the beaten track you’ll get to experience Lau’s unique culture. If you want to see a place that’s utterly unspoiled, while still offering the traditional Fijian hospitality, then visiting the Lau Group is your chance.
