The lodge is situated in Gisakura, a working tea plantation, on the edge of the Nyungwe National Park. The Nyungwe Forest is the largest mountain rainforest on the African continent with over 13 different species of primates, representing 20% of all the apes in Africa.

The National Park is situated in south-western Rwanda, south of Lake Kivu, on the border with Burundi. Established in 2004 the park covers an area of approximately 970 km² of rainforest, bamboo, grassland, swamps and bogs. Nyungwe is one of the oldest forests in Africa and is one of the last few mountain rainforest habitats.

The dining areas are made up of a boma (a wood-fenced area containing tables and chairs around an open fire) which provides a great location for outdoor dining and sundowners, as well as a restaurant with a private terrace, a tea lounge and a bar. Meals take place in a variety of these locations. The usual board basis is full board. Soft drinks are included at meal times. Drinks are an additional cost at all other times.

The lodge offers a fantastic range of facilities. You can swim in the heated rim-flow swimming pool with views into the rainforest or socialise at the poolside boma. Keep trim in the fitness centre with treadmill, cycle and free weights, or pamper yourself in the relaxation retreat with 2 treatment rooms and a Jacuzzi pool. At the boutique store you can select mementos and gifts for friends and loved ones. The lodge also offers laundry services, wireless internet access at main lodge building and conference facilities with AV equipment accommodating up to 16 delegates.

At the lodge you can take a 5,3 km walk to the beautiful Isumo waterfall (approx 2 hours each way). Other alternative is to visit the nearby tea factory offering guests insight into the full process of withering, cutting, tearing and curling, fermentation, drying and finally sorting, storing and packing. Friendly staff can also assist you to arrange chimpanzee and money treks, bird watching and various guided walking trails lasting from 1 hours to 7 hours, including cultural walks and visits to the Kamiranzovu swamp and waterfall.
