About the Resort

The beach in front of LUX* Marijani, Pwani Mchangani, is paradise defined: powdery white sand, swaying coconut palms, and the blue-green waters of the Zanzibar archipelago. At low tide, a sandbank emerges–the perfect spot for a sun salutation. When the tides rise, the lagoon becomes the dreamiest swimming pool.

Think breakfast on a sandbank with your toes in the water and fabulous barbecue dinners on the beach. There’s a lot to explore out here too. Tour a woodwork shop, visit a spice plantation, or wander through the labyrinthine streets of Stonetown, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Grand LUX* Suites
Set right on the beach facing the blue-green lagoon, the Grand LUX* Suite is as grand as it gets. The luxurious hideaway features a bedroom with a pink-coral outdoor tropical shower, a standalone bathtub and shower, a kitchen that opens onto a living room, and a separate bathroom. The outdoor sunken lounge and the private swimming pool on the beach.

Beachfront Deluxe Rooms
Located right on the beach, our Deluxe Rooms are suffused with shades of white with brass and wood accents, an ode to the island’s Arabic influence. Each room has a King-size or Twin beds, a spacious bathroom with a rainshower and an intimate terrace facing our gorgeous shores.

Beachfront Executive Rooms
The Beachfront Executive Rooms are suited for couples in search of a beach hideaway and a view of the sugar-white sand beach and blue-green lagoon. Imbued in shades of white with gorgeous locally crafted terrazzo floors. These rooms have a King-size bed, a gorgeous tiled bathroom with a standalone bathtub and a separate rainshower. Unwind on your terrace facing the sea.

Executive Rooms
These rooms have a King-size bed, a gorgeous tiled bathroom with a standalone bathtub and a separate rainshower as well as a terrace with a spectacular view. Roomier than the Deluxe Rooms, the Executive Rooms are suited for couples in search of a beach hideaway and all the privacy.

Deluxe Rooms
Located on the ground and first floors, the Deluxe Rooms are suffused with shades of white with brass and wood accents, an ode to the island’s Arabic influence. Each room has a King-size or Twin beds, a spacious bathroom with a rainshower and an intimate terrace or balcony.

Activities & Amenities

The Beach
This is beachside living at its best. Rise early to catch a glimpse of the seaweed mamas, ankle-deep in the warm waters, or a traditional dhow sailing past. Take a jog along the sandy shores, or just soak up the Zanzibari sun.

Forest Bathing
Keep an eye open for our indigenous forest, the perfect place to get into ‘Forest bathing’, the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku backed by science. Unplug from technology and slip into the present moment.

Sandbank Yoga
Take your yoga practice off the mat and onto a sandbank, which only emerges at low tide. At sunrise you can practice Tree Pose while watching the seaweed mamas harvest their bounty. 

Family Swimming Pool
Swim laps in the gigantic pool located at the heart of the resort. There is even a kids area for Little Travellers.

Extraordinary Experiences

Visit an authentic woodwork shop tucked between century-old trees and see how the hotel’s grand wooden doors were hand-carved. Visit a spice plantation and learn how spices are grown and harvested. Wander through the labyrinthine streets of Stonetown, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the LUX* way. Hop onboard a traditional sailing dhow to the shallows of Mnemba Island, famed for its dive sites. 

Pop Ups & Surprises 

Cinema Paradiso
LUX* Marijani regularly hosts outdoor cinema nights on the beach or in the gardens with a gorgeous setup (and snacks of course!). Cinema Paradiso can also be made private for a family movie night.

Tree of Wishes
Look out for a majestic Tree of Wishes. Here’s what to do: Think of something you want to manifest. Write it down on a piece of paper or ribbon. Tie it around a branch.

Message in a Bottle
Every day, we hide a bottle inside which is a roll of parchment containing a treasure for the person who hunts down the bottle. It could be a massage at LUX* Me Spa, a bottle of bubbly, a dinner for two…

Inspired by Stonetown’s famous night market, the LUX* team hosts a weekly market by the sea with incredible gourmet street food, sheesha, Masai crafts, local music and dancing.​
