Explore St Lucia

St Lucia is an incredibly beautiful island with dense areas of lush tropical rainforest, stunning beaches, spectacular waterfalls and even a drive-through volcano, with sulphur springs where you can bathe and enjoy the health benefits of the rich minerals literally oozing out of the earth.

The island also has many sites of historical importance, including Pigeon Island National Park and the old French capital of St Lucia, Soufriere.

The best way to enjoy St Lucia’s sights and attractions is as part of an organised tour with experienced guides who will be able to show you sights that you may not discover on your own. Indeed, St Lucia’s interior rainforest is a protected area and it’s strictly forbidden to visit without the consent of the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, so it’s essential that you only visit this area with an approved guide.

To do nearby

Union Mini Zoo
A visit to Union mini zoo could well be the highlight of your vacation in St Lucia. Here you’ll find a fascinating collection of animals and birds indigenous to St Lucia, as well as other exotic species.

Operated and maintained by St Lucia’s Ministry of Agriculture Forestry Department, Union mini zoo is staffed by experienced officers who were trained at the UK’s famous Jersey Zoo.

At Union mini zoo you’ll see the St Lucia Parrot – known locally as the Jacquot – a beautiful and colourful parrot whose survival was seriously endangered until the Government designated the Jacquot a protected species. Numbers are now on the increase and the St Lucia Parrot, though elusive, can be seen in the canopies of St Lucia’s rainforests.

During your visit you’ll also see the “tete-chien” boa constrictor, a snake native to St Lucia; iguanas, the largest lizards found on the island at up to 6ft long; and an indigenous mammal, the Agouti – an unusual rodent with long, slender legs.

Shopping
No vacation is complete without a spot of retail therapy. And in St Lucia, whether you’re looking for souvenirs, gifts for friends back home or a little indulgence or two for yourself, you’ll find there’s plenty of choice where shopping is concerned.

St Lucia has several duty free shopping centres, including two in Castries (remember to take your passport if you want to enjoy duty free prices). Castries also has a fantastic 100 year old market where you’ll find a wonderful selection of local arts and crafts.

Golf
The St Lucia Golf Club is located on the northern tip of the island and is set within the scenic rolling hills of Cap Estates. This par-71 championship course plays to 6685 yards/6113 metres and overlooks the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

The course was designed and built by a disciple of Robert Trent Jones Jr. and since opening in 2001 it has become one of the most demanding layouts in the Caribbean. The par 4 opening hole gets players’ attention right away with a fairway guarded on the right by a water hazard and fully grown trees on the left. Visitors will be inspired by the natural splendor of the course and the local wildlife there.
