Our company

With arguably the largest protected areas in the world, home to an unique array of bio-diversity and abundant quantities of wildlife, Tanzania's natural assets should merit a claim to it being one of the richest countries in the world. 

Some 26 years ago, Coastal recognised the opportunity to move into the tourism industry, but instead of investing in vehicles reliant on major National investments in roads, bridges and tourism infrastructures, Coastal decided instead to develop a flying safari network capable of accessing the remotest parts of the country, where no roads would yet reach, or possibly ever do so. 

Furthermore, this would allow Coastal to support and sustain like-minded visionaries with ecologically-sustainable camps and low-impact development in far-flung wilderness areas and provide an entirely different perspective on one of the world’s most celebrated tourism destinations. 

This legacy continues today, with Coastal Aviation flying to some 100 strips located in some of the most isolated pockets of the East African Region. The scheduled Coastal network also connects visitors to Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda with the world-famous Serengeti, links the emerging tourism destinations of Mozambique with the Southern Tanzania parks of Selous and Ruaha, and unites the tropical island paradises of Pemba, Zanzibar, Mafia and Fanjove Private Island with the National Parks and towns of the mainland.

Our fleet

Our state of the art fleet is composed of 20 aircraft and has been expertly-adapted to the African safari environment, without compromise to safety and comfort. Our maintenance complies to internationally-certified standards and stringent internal and regulatory audits for your peace of mind.

Each aircraft is suited to a specific purpose, each flown by qualified pilots of specialist experience, allowing our clients the flexibility to choose the services to suit their requirements. It includes three types of aircraft, ideal for any safari, corporate or personal requirement.

The flying safari experience

The Coastal Flying Safari is a uniquely extensive safari experience, far from the beaten track, venturing deep into the remote corners of the celebrated Tanzanian National Parks.

Through our expanding route network linking the National Parks, visiting several bush strips in the larger parks, we offer the opportunity to the more intrepid visitors to take part in a safari experience that might be otherwise prohibitively expensive.

The flying safari gives a broader, horizon-reaching perspective of the African wildernesses that our clients have come to see, free of traffic, poor roads and the minibus melee. We take you to the more secluded camps and lodges, offering bespoke access to the most game-rich areas for an in-depth, privileged safari experience with the most dedicated hosts, resident and intimately familiar with their surroundings.
